Meaning Making 2024/25
This year the overarching theme from October to May is “Roots of Resilience.”
The monthly themes are:
- October – Intentional Rest
- November – Deep Connection
- December – Radical Inclusion
- January – Active Engagement
- February – Theological Aliveness
- March – Spiritual Grounding
- April – Choosing Hope
- May – Cultivating Joy
For our monthly theme, we offer a few ways to engage it. We know there are different preferences in how to explore ideas and practices. So here’s what we’ve organized so far:
- one Sunday service each month with a guest speaker. Our worship team creates the service with materials offered in the program to choose from, including a recorded sermon by a Unitarian Universalist minister.
- a discussion group after that Sunday service, once each month
- a theme packet with a short reflection, questions, practices, quotes, and other resources (like books, songs, TED Talk links, etc.) Download the October’s theme packet.
- Soul Matters Group on the last Wednesday of the month, 1–3 pm (multi-platform).
In this small group, facilitated by Rev. Meg Roberts, you choose a practice to do from the theme packet at the start of the month, and one of the questions to ponder. Then, when we meet on the last Wednesday each month, we do rounds of sharing (offering each other deep listening about our experiences doing the practice and reflecting on the theme over the month). So, this offering is a contemplative practices group (not a discussion based group that has back-and-forth talking—the discussion is what we’re offering after that Sunday service, see above).
The theme packet also includes a discussion guide. So if you have a small group you are already part of at Beacon, or meet with others for coffee/tea each month and want to use some parts of it to spark an interesting discussion, or want to use it with your spouse/partner/family, please do! And let me know how it goes, so I can know what interests you.
If you would like more information, please contact Rev. Meg Roberts. All are welcome.
